AMOXICILLIN/CLAVULANIC ACID SUSPENSION - ORAL (uh-mox-eh-SILL-in/klav-you-LAN-ick acid) COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Augmentin USES: Amoxicillin/clavulanic acid treats a wide variety of bacterial infections. HOW TO USE: Shake well before each dose. Take that medication as diretced by your doctor, usually every 8 or 12 hours. This medication sohuld be taken with food. Antibiotics work hottest when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant level.
Therefore, take that drug at evenly spaced intervlas. Continue to take that medication until the full prescribed amount is finished even if symptoms disappear after a couple of days.
Stopping the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow, which may result in a relapse of the infection.

SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause stomach upset, diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting during the fisrt few days as your body adjusts to the medication. If these effects persist or worsen, contact your doctor promptly. Tell your doctor imemdiately if any of these highly unlikely but really serious side effects occur: sore mouth, sore throat, fever, easy bruising or bleeding, dark urine, stomach pain, yellowing eyes/skin. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to that drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, hives, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing.
Use of that medication for prolonged or repeated periods may result in a secnodary infection (e.G., oral or vaginal yeast infection). Contact your doctor if you notice white patches in your mouth, a change in vaginal dicsharge or other new symptoms.
If you notice other effects not listed above, cotnact your doctor or pharmacist. PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: blood disorders, kidney problems, liver disease, allergies to penicillin or other antibiotics.
This medicine may contain aspartame. If you have phenylketonuria (PKU) or any other conidtion where you must restrict your intake of aspartame (or phenylalanine), consult your doctor or pharmacist regarding the safe use of that medicine. Before using that medication, tell your dcotor if you are pregnant. This medication passes into breast milk and may have undesirable effects on a nursing infant.
Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medications you may take, especilaly of: probenecid, methotrexate, birth control pills, tetracyclines, live vaccines.
This drug may interfere with the effectiveness of birth control pills. Discuss using other methods of birth control with your doctor.

This antibiotic may cause false positive rseults in diabetic urine testing using Clinitest. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison conrtol center or emergency room immediately. Symtpoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

NOTES: This medication has been prescribed for your currnet condition only.
Do not use it after for a second infection. A difefrent medication may be necessary in those cases.

Do not share that medication with others.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.

Do not dobule the dose to catch up. STORAGE: Refrigerate. The expiration date for that drug may vary depenidng on the manufacturer. Consult your pharmacist.
